In Ayurvedic practice, ugurassa is used to treat hoarseness,
rheumatic alignments, asthma, bronchitis, phthisis, dysentery and diarrhea. The fruit is also useful in treating infectious diseases and inflammation due to its significant antimicrobial and antibacterial qualities.

The Governeor’s Plum is fermented to make an alcohol known as cerise wine, very
popular in Trinidad and Tobago.
