Cucumber is an excellent source of potassium which helps reduce blood pressure and heart rates by countering the effects of sodium. The unique combinations of antioxidants act as protective scavengers against oxygen-derived free radicals and reactive oxygen species that play a role in aging and various disease processes. Cucumbers contain a high amount of vitamin K, which plays a role in bone strength by promoting osteotrophic activity. It also contributes in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease by limiting neuronal damage to patients’ brains.
